To Our Lititz Meals On Wheels Community,
As you know, Pennsylvania has not passed a budget, which was due on 6/30/25. As a result, school districts, counties, etc., have not received any mandated funding from the state.
While we do not receive any state or federal funding, we do have an agreement with the Lancaster County Office of Aging to provide meals for their eligible clients. (we currently have 10). Lancaster County had been using reserve funds to pay for contracted services such as Meals on Wheels.
After 3 months of stalemate in Harrisburg, there is no indication we are close to a state budget. Therefore the county has decided to reimburse providers at 60% for services in October, and make no payments for services provided on or after 11/1/25. They have committed to making agencies whole when state funds are available.
We are grateful to our generous community who continue to donate funds and volunteer hours. Our MOW Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer are confident that we can manage through this situation. Accordingly, the Executive Committee of the Board anticipates no changes to our daily operation, or interruption of deliveries to clients, as a result of this impasse.

About Us
Lititz Meals on Wheels began in 1973, the vision of Lititz residents Polly Eshelman, Jane Rannels and Arline Shannon. They saw a need for home delivered meals to Lititz/Warwick residents who were unable, for various reasons, to prepare nutritious meals for themselves.
After a 2 month trial period with six clients and several volunteers, an agreement was reached with Lititz Church of the Brethren to prepare meals in their church kitchen. A hot meal and a bagged lunch were prepared by volunteer cooks and kitchen helpers and delivered by volunteer drivers daily, Monday through Friday. In just a few months the client list grew to over 40 clients and required more than 60 volunteers.

Today, 52 years later, we are still preparing and delivering meals from the Lititz Church of the Brethren. And, except for a part time kitchen manager, we have over 150 volunteer cooks, kitchen helpers, team leaders, schedulers and drivers making our operation successful.
We are an independent non-profit and, thanks to volunteers, we are currently providing our 60+/- clients with a hot meal and lunch for only $6.50 per day. An added benefit for our elderly clients is a daily wellness check as their meals are delivered.
Lititz Meals on Wheels is funded by client fees, community support, and donations, and has no affiliation with other state or national Meals on Wheels organizations.
